What happened in Bratislava?
This is a story that shows how God can use whatever he wants to spread HIS gospel...
This last weekend I had the chance to go to Bratislava for a Bachelorette Party. We were spending one night there as a bridal party and were expecting to have a great time.
This story commences with us rushing to meet our 10pm reservations at a roof top bar in the city centre of Bratislava. One from the bridal party made the reservation the day before on-line. But once we got to the bar we found out that the reservation actually wasn't made and there was no more tables left on the roof that evening.
So the six of us went walking around Old Town Bratislava looking for a place to eat dinner and have some fun cocktails. We tried a number of places but got the same response at all attempts: "Kitchen Closed"- not the words empty stomachs want to hear. Eventually we walked past a Scottish Pub and went in asking if they were still serving food. We found out we had 20 minutes before the kitchen closed. We rushed in and found a place to sit in a secluded room. After we all devoured our burgers and fries and shared all our marriage advice with the future bride, a gentleman from one of the other parties in our room joined our table without our permission.
Through his keen observation skills this gentleman, H, denounced that we were enjoying a Bachelorette Party (The Bride had a dollar store veil on). But he was surprised we weren't drinking more and being more obnoxious. He was curious where we all were from since we were speaking English. Once he found out one from our party was from the USA he latched onto that subject and wouldn’t let it go. He brought up all the typical stereotypes of Americans and shared some personal observations of the States that he gathered from TV shows and movies. The American in our party was very patient with him and answered his questions very politely.
Then the gentlemen's friend, P, joined our table as well but his English wasn't that great but his friend, H, would translate for him when needed. After talking about what we all did (studying, working etc.) H was curious how we all knew each other. I stated that we all knew each other from Church and then I asked H if he goes to Church. He responded no because he believes that we can only rely on ourselves. Then I asked P if he went to church and he responded yes.
What followed next was a conversation about God and the whole bridal party basically evangelized these two fellows from Bratislava. Each girl was able to contribute something unique to the conversation. One of the bridesmaids got a word from the Lord that was exactly what one of the guys needed to hear and when she was sharing what God was telling her his eye were tearing up. It was easy to feel the Holy Spirit was filling up this Pub as we shared about God and all of the Bridal party's spirits were aflame. After sharing with H, he kept on say how he should start believing in God and the whole table encouraged him to make this life changing decision even his friend P. But he wasn't ready to make the commitment that night. Nevertheless we were able to plant a seed that evening. When we left the pub there were hugs all around and the guys were left speechless over our encounter.
It will never cease to amaze me how God used the non-existent reservation, the closed kitchens and all the girls from the bridal party to share the gospel with these two men in Bratislava. Nothing happens by accident-God uses everything. But I don't think I will ever go to a Bachelorette party that will ever be the same as that one.
Hope you enjoyed the story J
