Long time no talk....

Aloha Friends and Family,

First off I want to apologize for the delay in updates.  As I sure some of you can relate..time just ran away from me and I just couldn’t find time to write.  Currently, I have a moment to pause, think and write.

Where am I?
I am back in Alaska getting ready for my second summer enjoying the land of the midnight sun but before I head into a monologue about Amazing Alaska let me catch you up with what has happened in the life of Gillian McPherson.

My season in Antarctica finished as a whirlwind of activity.  Being in the fuels department is never boring especially near the end when we had to off load 7 million gallons of fuel off a fuel tanker.  It was a lot of prep work over the whole season for a week and a half of 12 hour shifts.

Even though I was working I still had fun in the later half of my season.  Highlights include: running the marathon again, performing in the first and only production of the Nutcracker, preforming with the dance trop and many hikes that lead to enjoying penguins.

I made it back to Canada in one piece at the beginning of March.  I had many undisturbed weeks with family in my home town.  It is the longest I have been home since 2016.  Highlights were: spending spring break with my nephews, sister, brother-in-law and Mom on Vancouver Island, countless springtime walks and runs, quality time with the family and celebrating my birthday with my family.

Now Alaska Update.  Since last summer was a blast I am again working for Alaska Wildland Adventures (AWA).  This year I will be working at Siklak Lake as the relief captain two days a week and for the other three days I will be captaining out of Seward, AK.  AWA has four vessels that run out of Seward Harbor.  Some are used for Kayak Charters.  Some are used for getting guest back and forth from one of the lodges AWA runs.  I am looking forward to a summer with a mix of familiar and new.  The real bonus is having time on my weekends to explore more of Alaska.

Until Next time...

Lots of joy, Gillian
